I often get questions about why an image looks so different in different sizes.  The reason is that different sizes have different proportions.  Take for example your basic 4″ by 6″ photo.  The image is four inches on the short side and six inches on the long side.

Cropping 4x6Now let’s say you doubled the size of the photo.  Now you have an 8″ by 12″ photo.  The proportions are the same.  The image has just doubled in size.

But you have a frame that is 8″ by 10.”  You need to crop off two inches to fit the 8″ by 10″ frame.  You could keep the image the same original proportions and make it 10 inches on the long side, but that means you have a smaller number on the short side, somewhere just shy of 7 inches.

Cropping 8x10 shrinkIf you cut off the extra two inches on the long side, you lose about one-sixth of the length of the image.

Cropping 8x10So we crop the image, but we reposition the subject in the photo to a more pleasing position.

Unfortunately, at the present time, the software does not allow you to select the crop for images in our Packages.  We will select a crop and forward it to you for approval.  Let us know what changes you desire.
