Let’s take a tour of Kamalame Cay!
From our previous post, you know how to get to Andros, Bahamas. Now let’s make our way to Kamalame Cay.
If you fly into Fresh Creek, take a taxi to Stanyard Creek. There you will find the boat dock where you will be greeted and escorted to Kamalame Cay.
Once on the island, you will be escorted to the front office to check in and then off to your villa. At each turn, there are guideposts to show you the way.
Let’s head toward the beach villas and check out our villa, Driftwood.
Welcome to Driftwood! There are plenty of places to relax, inside and out.
Let’s take a short stroll down the path to the beach.
The beach is a beautiful stretch of sand in both directions. It is particularly pretty in the morning, right around sunrise. The water is unbelievably calm and the sky fills with pink light. Take your breakfast basket, delivered to your door every morning, and enjoy some coffee and the view!
It’s even pretty to see at night, with a lighting storm off in the distance, as seen in this long-exposure photograph.
The next stop on our tour of Kamalame Cay is the spa, the only over water spa in the Bahamas. It’s just a short walk down the beach.
We’ll be back to visit the spa in a future post. Let’s hop in the golf cart and see more of the island!
Opposite the beach side of the island are the flats, where you’ll see loads of birds and some scenic areas.
Let’s head back toward the marina and the dive shop and look around.
We’ll be back in the dive shop in a future post to take a few diving/snorkeling trips where we’ll check out the reefs and an oceanic blue hole! In the meantime, we’ll talk a rest here at the end of the dock and enjoy the quiet.
By now, you’ve got to be getting hungry. Let’s head up to the Great House for a bite to eat. The Great House is where you’ll have all your meals. It’s also the place where they hold a special luncheon which was already under way when we arrived. Although our flight was delayed into Nassau, we were able to catch the end of the party and met some great people. If you can arrange a visit during the luncheon, make an effort to do so. It was a great way to connect with people on the island and share some wine, and maybe a few shots of rum!
The Great House was, as all the interiors were, tastefully decorated and comfortable.
The food is outstanding here. There were many great offerings on the standard menus, plus specials which were hard to pass by. A breakfast favorite was lionfish with grits. Yum! And you’re doing your part to take care of those pesky lionfish!
Let’s not forget the adult beverages. If you would like them to mix up a cocktail, they are glad to help, or help yourself to the wonderful choices!
If you are not a guest of house, it’s an honour bar system.
Stroll out on the patio and onto the beach.
Or just take a seat and enjoy the view!
