In November of 2025, we returned for another stay at Cap Juluca, Anguilla for a week of soaking up the sun on Anguilla’s best beach, Maunday’s Bay. We were last at Cap Juluca in 2019, when the resort was fresh off its $100M+ post-Irma renovation. I really wasn’t expecting it to be any better than that, but I have to say, the Belmond group again surprised me. This will be the first of several posts covering our stay, as we participated in several activities, including a rum tasting, a wine tasting, and a cocktail class, all worthy of separate attention, but, with our welcome cocktail in hand, let’s take a…

I took this shot of the island from the air as we departed Anguilla for the 8th time. I was remembering many relaxing days on the beach at Cap Juluca, and visits to our favorite restaurants, along with a few new ones. We indulged in the rum tasting, wine tasting, champagne sabering, and cocktail classes at Cap Juluca, meeting many new friends. We drove around a bit to see how the island had changed since we were last here in 2023. I am sending the film out for processing and working through my digital images, so stay tuned for detailed posts from another memorable week on our favorite Caribbean island.

I love the handmade madras fabrics from Androsia Batik, Andros Bahamas. For some behind-the-scenes at the workshop, check out our post from our visit back in 2016: A Visit to Androsia Batik. After collecting the different patterns over the years, I decided to make a patchwork fabric and sew a skirt. I love madras patchwork, but there are not a whole lot of tutorials on how to make the fabric, so while I was making my skirt, I decided to document the steps so that you can make your own madras patchwork fabric. Before beginning, wash the fabric as instructed by the fabricator. Androsia included a card which advises to…

On our last trip to Grenada, pretty much all the shops were closed due to COVID, and although we visited the small spice market on Grand Anse beach, I always wanted to visit the main market in St. George’s. So on my 60th birthday, I set out with my daughter and son-in-law to explore downtown. We started out at the St. George’s Spice Market at Young and Grandby. There were a variety of spices and fruit, as well as crafts. My favorite vendor was the gentleman pictured below who customized a carving for a friend back home. We then walked west on Granby toward the Esplanade Shopping Complex. This is…

When planning a family trip to the Caribbean, Spice Island Beach Resort immediately comes to mind. Everyone in the family can do their own thing, eat and drink as much as they want, and enjoy the best beach on the island. We last visited in 2021, just after COVID restrictions were lifted, with our son, but this time brought the whole family, including my daughter and son-in-law. They are the adventurous ones, who search out a national park everywhere we visit. Grenada did not disappoint. They could search out the hikes through the mountains, visiting multiple waterfalls, and we could spend the day on the beach. We could all enjoy…

Last time we visited Grenada, we went snorkeling in the underwater sculpture garden in Grenada, Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park. It is a collection of 75 sculptures spread over 800 acres. Last time we visited, we took a dive boat with Aquanauts, sharing it with a group of divers. This time we chartered a boat, Bacchanal, one of the beautiful catamarans with Grenadines Sailing Escapade. Bacchanal is a 42-foot Fontaine Pajot Venezia Catamaran, and we had it all to ourselves! Our first stop was the park, and then we visited Flamingo Bay and Mango Bay before returning to St. George’s. The weather was better this time, with improved visibility underwater.…

Sometimes you hit a dry spell in photography where you are looking for some inspiration – anything to light the fire and get you shooting again. On this vacation, we were returning to a place we have visited before, staying at the same resort we had stayed at before, and I needed a bit of spark to pull out my camera instead of another rum punch. So I reached for my Fujifilm GFX 50R and switched the image size aspect ratio setting to 65:24 and prepared to see the beach in a new way. One very cool feature is that although the camera does apply the mask in the 65:24…
