Sometimes you hit a dry spell in photography where you are looking for some inspiration – anything to light the fire and get you shooting again. On this vacation, we were returning to a place we have visited before, staying at the same resort we had stayed at before, and I needed a bit of spark to pull out my camera instead of another rum punch. So I reached for my Fujifilm GFX 50R and switched the image size aspect ratio setting to 65:24 and prepared to see the beach in a new way.
One very cool feature is that although the camera does apply the mask in the 65:24 aspect ratio, if you find that you were a bit tilted (I swear one of my legs is shorter than the other), you can fix the tilt because the camera keeps the entire image allowing you to make the correction:

I listen regularly to the “I Dream of Cameras” podcast, and I have heard Jeff go on at length about his XPan, and seeing his Instagram, he really produces some amazing shots. Now, I am not in the market to purchase an XPan given the current prices, but I could get a bit of that experience with a camera I currently own. So why not? It’s digital – it’s free. So here is a bit of the beach in XPan style!

All images shot with the Fujifilm 50mm f/3.5 lens.
