Blanchard’s Beach Shack is a regular stop on our visits to Anguilla, but this trip, we had a new menu item we had to try, fried chicken. We have always loved the burgers, street tacos, and jerk chicken bowls, not to mention the rum punch, but the thought of fried chicken pulled us in. The chicken is offered cilantro-lime, blue cheese, spicy sriracha, sweet chili, BBQ, honey BBQ and vegan chipotle-lime sauces. We made three visits this trip to try all the sauces. We are not usually ones to visit resort restaurants, generally preferring to dine at local establishments on our trips to the Caribbean. But there are some places that prove us wrong, and prove that we could really be missing out. This trip to Anguilla was our fifth trip since 2007, but we had never been to Jacala before. For the first couple trips, it was not possible as Jacala opened in 2010 when Jacques Borderon and Alain Laurent left Malliouhana‘s Michel Rostang to start their own restaurant. New since our last trip to Nevis was The Gin Trap bar and restaurant. Located on the mountain side of the main road in Jones Bay, the restaurant occupies the old Gallipot location. You are first escorted to the bar area, outfitted with leather couches and chairs, so you can get comfortable while making your selections, or if you’re a teenager, while playing on your cell phone. It seems too simple to call it “food and drink” at Rosewood’s Jumby Bay, Antigua. It was like fine dining at every meal, and a wide variety of cocktails at each of the resort bars. One of our favorite spots for dinner on Anguilla is B&D’s BBQ. It’s a bit different from other dining spots on the island. You won’t find white linen table cloths, ocean views, or live music. What you will find is great local food in a family setting. B&D’s is only open Friday and Saturday nights, under a tent adjacent to the owners’ home.
