I was honored once again to be recognized by the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) in its 30th Annual Awards for Excellence in Travel Journalism. I received an Honorable Mention in the category of Photography – Photo Essay for “Photo Tour of Key West,” on Film Road Trip. Work eligible for the competition was work first published between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021. The winners represented the best in travel journalism, with journalists from major publications including Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic Travel, and Travel + Leisure, and many others. Happy 100th birthday to the National Park System! In celebration, we visit Dry Tortugas National Park with this guest post from our friend, Andy Stenz. Andy is a photographer and blogger who I met many years ago when I first became involved in our local community of photographers here in Wisconsin. He has discovered the beauty and warmth of Hawaii, and soon will become a permanent resident on the island of Oahu. The Roar of the Lionfish When a species is introduced into a place unknown to it before, the consequences can be devastating. The coastal United States and Caribbean nations are currently threatened with the invasion of a species of fish which has no predators in the region, other than man, and which may be responsible for wiping out the beautiful fish of the Caribbean region which delight snorkelers and divers who visit the area. The lionfish, (family Scorpaenidae, genus Pterois), is native to the Pacific Ocean waters.
