Top 10 Things to Do on Nevis

    August 27, 2017 / No Comments

Some people think that when you’re on an island known for its natural beauty, there are few things to do but recline in a beach chair and soak up the sun.  Although that’s certainly an option on Nevis, there are loads of things to do when you’re not relaxing. If you’re looking for things to do on the island, here’s our Top 10 Nevis! Enjoy a Killer Bee Some people make the trip to Nevis just for the “Killer Bee” at the famous Sunshine’s beach bar on Pinney’s Beach. Few know exactly what is in this potent cocktail, other than a lot of rum and a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg…

    Nevisian Spirit: Four Seasons Nevis

    August 11, 2017 / No Comments

With so many places in the world to see, why return to a place you have visited before? Some people travel to the same location trip after trip.  There’s a certain amount of comfort with traveling that way.  You know the lay of the land.  You know how to get where you’re going, and you never are without a restaurant for dinner.   I like to explore and see as many places as we can, but there are some places we return to for just that reason – – you are familiar with your surroundings, you know you will have a great time, and you know you will be able…

Monkeys! Monkeys! Monkeys! On the Island of Nevis

    August 6, 2017 / 1 Comment

Tourists love them. Residents hate them.  They are pests – – cute, furry-faced, little pests.  Green vervet monkeys are known for entertaining tourists, but also for their destruction, causing islanders to ponder the best way to preserve one of Nevis’s biggest attractions, while at the same time protecting their island’s ability to prosper. Green vervet monkeys are believed to come with slaves to Barbados, St. Kitts, and Nevis from West Africa in the late 1600’s, with large populations developing by the early 1700’s. Their appetite seems to never be satisfied, and they’ll munch on a farmer’s crops if opportunity arises.  Their path of destruction extends beyond consumption of the island’s…

    Nevis: Something For Everyone

    July 14, 2017 / No Comments

When you tell others that you are traveling to Nevis, you may receive a puzzled look.  They may have heard of its sister island, St. Kitts, which lies just two miles off the coast, but Nevis has not come upon their radar.  Nevis is a 36 square-mile island, the center of which is Nevis Peak, rising to 3,232 feet.  Christopher Columbus discovered Nevis on his second voyage in 1493, naming it “Nuestra Senora de Las Nieves,” “Our Lady of the Snows,” referring to the small cloud, resembling snow, which is nearly always present at its peak.  To its north, you will find St. Kitts, to the east, Antigua, and to the…

Happy National Mojito Day! The Mangojito!

    July 11, 2015 / No Comments

In honor of National Mojito Day, we bring you a little bit of the Caribbean, the Mangojito, a creation of the folks at the Four Seasons Nevis.   1.5 ounces Brinley’s Gold Mango Rum 8 mint leaves Splash of simple syrup Juice of 1 lime 1 Tablespoon of mango puree Club Soda Start by peeling and removing the pit from the mangoes, or more accurately, the mango from the pit. Place the pieces in your blender and puree until smooth. Make up some simple syrup.  It’s one part water, one part sugar.  Heat it to make sure that the sugar is dissolved and allow to cool down. Place the mint…

    July 21, 2013 / No Comments

The signature cocktail of the Four Seasons Nevis, the Mangojito is a mix of Brinley’s Gold Mango Rum, mango puree, simple syrup, club soda, and muddled mint leaves.  Who knew that the mojito could be even more delicious?  The folks at the Four Seasons have generously shared their recipe, so be sure to try this one at home! 1.5 ounces Brinley’s Gold Mango Rum 8 mint leaves Splash of simple syrup Juice of 1 lime 1 Tablespoon of mango puree Club Soda Place mint leaves in glass with the splash of simple syrup and lime juice, and muddle the mint leaves (crush to release the flavor).  Add ice, rum, mango…

Time to daydream a bit.  When work gets a bit dull, it’s easy to glide over to Facebook or Twitter, and think about what you would rather be doing right now.  If you really had to narrow it down to a list, and put them in order of priority, what makes your top ten?  Here’s our list: #10  Cocktails and tapas at SandBar, Sandy Ground, Anguilla.  The perfect combination of delicious food and great views. #9   Sip lemon grass water in a lounge chair at the Four Seasons Nevis.  The flavored water of the day at the Four Seasons Nevis changes daily, but the lemon grass is the best.…
