Olas Tacos, Shoal Bay East, Anguilla

    March 7, 2026 / No Comments

We are thrilled that Picante is building a new restaurant on the island, but that left us craving Mexican food during our recent trip, and we had already hit up Blanchard’s Beach Shack for tacos several times. Picante was always good for one, sometimes two, visits each trip, so we headed down to Shoal Bay East to try out Olas Tacos.  To get to Olas, just park at the parking lot just up the hill from Shoal Bay East. From there, a sign will lead you down the path to Olas. My husband started out with a margarita, but I went for my regular, a rum punch. At Olas, the…

    Cafe des Arts, Nevis

    August 13, 2017 / 1 Comment

Just a short walk from the ferry dock in Nevis, you’ll find Cafe des Arts.  Cafe des Arts is a casual cafe, located right next door to the Museum of Nevis History and the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.  Walk along the avenue of flags on the waterfront, and you’ll spot the cafe. Have a seat at an umbrella-covered table and take a look at the menu.  You’ll notice that breakfast is served all day long, which is a hit with me.  They also serve lunch and host “Burger Nights,” quite popular with visitors. The prices are on the menu in…

    Geraud’s Patisserie, Anguilla

    January 12, 2015 / No Comments

No trip to Anguilla is complete without a stop at Geraud’s.  I am amazed every time I enter the shop – – row after row of gorgeous pastries and breads to choose from!  I’m no chef, but I had always read that good pastry requires cool conditions, and Anguilla is anything but cool.  He turns out croissants with such light, flaky layers!   If you have read my posts over the years, you know the pain au chocolat is my favorite! Geraud’s has been our regular breakfast stop over the past couple trips, however, this year, we stayed at the CuisinArt where breakfast is included.  But that’s no excuse to…

    Sunday Afternoon at da’Vida, Anguilla

    January 4, 2015 / No Comments

Sunday afternoons are the perfect time to visit da’Vida, located on Crocus Bay in Anguilla.  The restaurant always had a great reputation, but we never found our way there on previous visits.   After this visit, I look forward to visiting again. We weren’t alone.  Sunday afternoon seemed to be the time, and da’Vida seemed to be the place.  The parking lot was packed, and we knew we were in the right place when we spotted this van. Omari Banks plays at da’Vida on Sunday afternoons.  So not only do you get a nice meal, you get great music too! The setting is beautiful, especially on a gorgeous afternoon like…

Taste of the Caribbean: Spicy Conch Chili, Harbour Island, Bahamas

    March 3, 2014 / No Comments

Taste of the Caribbean takes us to Harbour Island in the Bahamas, a short 10-minute boat ride from the northern end of Eleuthera.  This island known best for the famous Pink Sand Beach on its eastern shore, is also home to some fantastic restaurants, including Sip Sip, known for cocktails and gossip, “sip sip,” but also for delicious food by chef Julie Lightbourn.  The spicy conch chili can be found on the menu every day at Sip Sip, but don’t come for dinner.  Sip Sip is open for lunch only, and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so plan ahead.  It should not be missed. For more on our trip to…

Spirits of the Caribbean: Rum Punch, Salt Mills Cafe, Turks & Caicos Islands

    July 30, 2013 / No Comments

This colorful rum punch comes to us courtesy of the Salt Mills Cafe and Diner, located in the Salt Mills Plaza, Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands.  I couldn’t help but take a few sips before taking a this photo!  Decorated in bright primary colors, the diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers vegetarian and gluten free dishes. For more photos and journal entries from our trips to Providenciales, click here.  Cheers! Update:  Sources tell us the cafe has now closed. Oh well, you can still enjoy our travel photos from Providenciales!  And if you’re looking for a bite to eat, check out Hole in the Wall! or Da Conch Shack!
