We’re just back from our trip to Puerto Rico last week for the NATJA (North American Travel Journalists Association) conference, held May 2 through 6. I have downloaded my memory cards and will be sending my film off to the lab in the morning. Today the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) announced the winners of its 28th Annual Awards Competition, and I am thrilled to share with you that I was awarded Gold in the category of Photography: Featured Photo, Illustration for this image from my article, “The Heart of Anguilla.” Anguilla holds a special place in my heart and this image, and the article in which it was featured, showcase Anguilla’s tremendous comeback following the devastation of Hurricane Irma. I am honored to be recognized as a Finalist in the 2017 competition for best Independent Travel Blog by the North American Travel Journalists (NATJA). The NATJA awards recognize outstanding publications, travel journalists, photographers whose work was published in print and online media each year. Sometimes you have to jump right in, even when you may not think you are experienced enough or talented enough. It was back in 2011 that my husband convinced me to enter the Caribbean Travel + Life Photo Contest, and it turned out that I won the grand prize. But that competition was primarily for amateurs.
