Blanchard’s Beach Shack is a regular stop on our visits to Anguilla, but this trip, we had a new menu item we had to try, fried chicken. We have always loved the burgers, street tacos, and jerk chicken bowls, not to mention the rum punch, but the thought of fried chicken pulled us in. The chicken is offered cilantro-lime, blue cheese, spicy sriracha, sweet chili, BBQ, honey BBQ and vegan chipotle-lime sauces. We made three visits this trip to try all the sauces. It’s definitely worth at least one visit! By the way, they have a happy hour weekdays from 4 to 6 pm, with drink specials, including $1 off…

We are not usually ones to visit resort restaurants, generally preferring to dine at local establishments on our trips to the Caribbean. But there are some places that prove us wrong, and prove that we could really be missing out. This trip to Cap Juluca, we had lunch and dinner at Uchu, known for bringing the cuisine of Peru to the shores of Anguilla. We were first tempted when we heard raves about the ceviche, so one afternoon after a long morning at the beach, we stopped in for a bite. Uchu is set just outside the bar just across from the concierge, overlooking beautiful Maunday’s Bay. The ceviche features…

When you have traveled to a place seven times, it’s easy to get into a pattern of visiting the same places and eating at the same restaurants each trip. We do try to add a couple new places every time we visit Anguilla, and were excited to try Artisan Pizza Napoletana in Island Harbour. Even though we stayed on the west end, it was an easy drive out to Island Harbour. Our kids had eaten there earlier in the week when they went out to Island Harbour for a night kayaking trip with Liquid Glow. They raved about the place, so the whole family headed out a few nights later. When…

The most difficult part of planning a trip to Anguilla is deciding where to eat. There are so many great restaurants, that you’ll have to create a short list. 2019 was our fifth trip to the island, so we’ve been to many places on previous trips. This trip, we returned to some favorites, and tried a few new places. Take a look at our restaurant choices for our week on Anguilla. I have to point out that we stayed at Belmond Cap Juluca, so our breakfast every morning was at Cip’s. There were a few mornings we had a late breakfast or a big breakfast, and didn’t have an appetite…

January of 2019 marked our fifth trip to Anguilla. Every trip, we try a few new restaurants, but we can’t help but revisit our old favorites. In those previous trips, we somehow never made it to Blanchards, despite the fact that Melinda and Robert Blanchard’s book, A Trip to the Beach, drew us to the island. This trip we had the best of both worlds, revisiting Blanchards Beach Shack, and dining for the first time at the original Blanchards, a divine duo. Both Blanchards and Blanchards Beach Shack are on the same property on the east end of Meads Bay. The signs on top of the building show you the…

You know you want to honeymoon in the Caribbean, but which island? The islands are incredibly diverse. Some have better beaches. Some are ideal for foodies. Some islands are favorites for adventure. The islands are as diverse as the people who visit. Here are some suggestions for the perfect Caribbean honeymoon. Best Islands for Beach Lovers Anguilla Anguilla is located at the northern end of the Leeward Islands chain in the Eastern Caribbean, a short 25-minute boat ride north of St. Martin. You won’t see any mountains or rainforest on Anguilla, as it is largely coral and limestone with limited vegetation. However, what it lacks in elevation, it makes up…

New since our last trip to Nevis was The Gin Trap bar and restaurant. Located on the mountain side of the main road in Jones Bay, the restaurant occupies the old Gallipot location. You are first escorted to the bar area, outfitted with leather couches and chairs, so you can get comfortable while making your selections, or if you’re a teenager, while playing on your cell phone. You cannot go wrong with 101 choices of gin! The gin menu is longer than the food menu. The only difficult part is making a choice. Luckily, you are not left without assistance. The helpful staff guides you through the process, inquiring as to…

Welcome to Puntacana Village! Located on the grounds of the Puntacana Resort & Club, the marketplace includes restaurants and shops in an open-air environment shady by a canopy of beautiful trees. The distance to the Village from Tortuga Bay is too great for our golf cart battery, so we arranged for a lift. There are a variety of restaurants in the Village from which to choose. I loved these pizza delivery vehicles! In addition to a number of small galleries and shops, there is a pharmacy and a very well-stocked grocery store with everything you need. Every other Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Village hosts the Puntacana Village Farmers…
