Snorkeling Trip on Bacchanal, Grenadines Sailing Escapade, Grenada

    August 17, 2025 / No Comments

Last time we visited Grenada, we went snorkeling in the underwater sculpture garden in Grenada,  Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park. It is a collection of 75 sculptures spread over 800 acres. Last time we visited, we took a dive boat with Aquanauts, sharing it with a group of divers. This time we chartered a boat, Bacchanal, one of the beautiful catamarans with Grenadines Sailing Escapade. Bacchanal is a 42-foot Fontaine Pajot Venezia Catamaran, and we had it all to ourselves! Our first stop was the park, and then we visited Flamingo Bay and Mango Bay before returning to St. George’s. The weather was better this time, with improved visibility underwater.…

Grenada’s Underwater Sculpture Park with Aquanauts

    February 28, 2022 / No Comments

When you travel, you can’t always plan for the weather. Luckily, in the Caribbean, there are more sunny days than rainy ones, but when you have some rain, it can change your plans. Ever since I began planning a trip to Grenada, I wanted to visit the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. So we planned a trip with Aquanauts, and despite a bit of rain clouding up our view, we had a great trip out onto the water. Installed in 2006, Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park was the first of artist Jason deCaires Taylor’s underwater gardens. The sculptures are intended to form a platform upon which coral could grow and provide an…

    The Perfect Caribbean Honeymoon

    June 16, 2018 / No Comments

You know you want to honeymoon in the Caribbean, but which island?  The islands are incredibly diverse.  Some have better beaches.  Some are ideal for foodies.  Some islands are favorites for adventure. The islands are as diverse as the people who visit.  Here are some suggestions for the perfect Caribbean honeymoon. Best Islands for Beach Lovers Anguilla Anguilla is located at the northern end of the Leeward Islands chain in the Eastern Caribbean, a short 25-minute boat ride north of St. Martin.  You won’t see any mountains or rainforest on Anguilla, as it is largely coral and limestone with limited vegetation.  However, what it lacks in elevation, it makes up…

Top 10 Things to Do on Nevis

    August 27, 2017 / No Comments

Some people think that when you’re on an island known for its natural beauty, there are few things to do but recline in a beach chair and soak up the sun.  Although that’s certainly an option on Nevis, there are loads of things to do when you’re not relaxing. If you’re looking for things to do on the island, here’s our Top 10 Nevis! Enjoy a Killer Bee Some people make the trip to Nevis just for the “Killer Bee” at the famous Sunshine’s beach bar on Pinney’s Beach. Few know exactly what is in this potent cocktail, other than a lot of rum and a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg…

Catamaran Sail on Caona, St. Kitts and Nevis

    July 29, 2017 / 1 Comment

It’s time to get out on the water aboard Caona, a 47-foot catamaran in the Leeward Islands Charters fleet.  At the helm was our captain, Lennox Wallace, and our destination was Shitten Bay, a cove off the southwestern coast of St. Kitts. Caona is moored in Nevis, and the crew and boat met us at the Four Seasons dock for our half-day snorkeling trip.  Up went the sails, and we were off! Shitten Bay may not sound so lovely, but the word “shitten” refers to the acacia trees which grow in the area. “Shittim” is the plural of “Shittah,” the Hebrew word for the acacia trees, believed to be holy…

Snorkeling and Diving in Andros, Bahamas

    August 15, 2016 / No Comments

It’s time to get back out onto the water.  We explored the oceanic and inland blue holes in a previous post.  Now we’re headed out to check out some of the beautiful reefs for which Andros, Bahamas is famous.  One trip was a snorkeling and diving trip.  Our daughter is a certified diver, so she likes to keep her skills up on vacation, and she’s had some beautiful places to explore.  The rest of us are snorkelers, but the people at Kamalame Cay worked it out so we could all do what we enjoyed.  With our guides, Mark and Hannah, we had several great days under the water! Our first…

    Blue Holes of Andros, Bahamas

    July 30, 2016 / No Comments

You don’t go to Andros, Bahamas for the night life or casinos or shopping.  You go because of its natural beauty, the beaches, the wildlife, the wetlands, and the third largest barrier reef in the world. If you like to explore the natural environment, Andros is for you. One of the most interesting natural features of Andros are its blue holes.  Blue holes are vertical caves, formed by the slow erosion of the limestone bedrock of the island from acidic rainwater trickling through crevices in the limestone.  Andros has the highest concentration of blue holes in the world, over 220 total, some inland, and some oceanic. In 1971, the famous…

    Dry Tortugas National Park

    May 21, 2016 / No Comments

Happy 100th birthday to the National Park System!  In celebration, we visit Dry Tortugas National Park with this guest post from our friend, Andy Stenz.  Andy is a photographer and blogger who I met many years ago when I first became involved in our local community of photographers here in Wisconsin.  He has discovered the beauty and warmth of Hawaii, and soon will become a permanent resident on the island of Oahu.  He loves to travel – – he’s now exploring Europe with his lovely wife, Jessica – – and was kind enough to share with us his visit to Dry Tortugas. Enjoy!  And be sure to follow Andy on Instagram…
