When you travel, you can’t always plan for the weather. Luckily, in the Caribbean, there are more sunny days than rainy ones, but when you have some rain, it can change your plans. Ever since I began planning a trip to Grenada, I wanted to visit the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. So we planned a trip with Aquanauts, and despite a bit of rain clouding up our view, we had a great trip out onto the water.

Installed in 2006, Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park was the first of artist Jason deCaires Taylor’s underwater gardens. The sculptures are intended to form a platform upon which coral could grow and provide an attraction for visitors to the island. There are a wide variety of sculptures, 75 in total, at various depths, spread over 800 acres. The most famous of them all is the circle of children, holding hands, entitled “Viccisitudes.”

It was convenient to set out on our day trip. Aquanauts has a location at Spice Island Beach Resort, so just a few steps from our suite, and we were ready to go. We opted for the morning excursion, and although it was not raining that day, unfortunately, it had rained the night before. That may not seem to be an issue, but Grenada is a hilly island. When the rain hits the soil, it runs down and deposits into the water, impairing visibility. So, I do not have the greatest photographs from our trip, but we had a wonderful time out on the water with our diving and snorkeling friends.
