This “Spirit of the Caribbean” can be found steps away from the famous Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island, Bahamas. This is the Sip Sip Rum Punch, a perfect blend of pineapple, guava, and passion fruit juices which make this rum punch a winner. For more on why Sip Sip is one of our Favorite Beach Bars, read more here…

I first wrote this post for my general photography website back in 2011, after dealing with multiple infringements of my copyrighted images. Sadly, it needs repeating, perhaps more so today. People are writing blogs or creating websites to generate revenue. They don’t necessarily write about what they know or places they have been, but create “content” to draw readers in, to generate money from their sites. To do this, some use the words, photographs, and creative works of others. They have not been trained in journalism, public relations or law, and think that anything they find on the internet is theirs to use. They couldn’t be more wrong. I have…

If you read our posts on Eleuthera, you can tell that we loved the pink sand. I had seen many photos of French Leave Beach and Harbour Island before our visit and some looked a bit unreal – – almost a cotton candy hue. I suspected that many of these images are the result of a heavy hand on the saturation slider in the photographer’s post-processing. Often we take a photo, and are frustrated in that it did not capture the color that well. We snap a shot, and the beach looks white or beige, not what we saw at the time. Is that sand really pink? To see…

I have always wanted to go to Carnival in the Caribbean, but we never seemed to be in the islands at the right time. My friend and photographer, Brian Sprague, and his friend, Sarah, celebrated their birthdays in in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and were kind enough to share their experiences, including Carnival! For those new to the area, the Dominican Republic is one of two nations on the island of Hispanola, the other being Haiti. Punta Cana is part of the Punta Cana-Bavaro-Veron-Macao municipal district in La Altagracia, the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic. The capital city of La Altagracia is Higüey. Walk with Brian and Sarah around Higüey,…

No trip report is complete without talking about the food and drink. Vacation is not just about the beach and the ocean. We need to recharge! We tried a wide variety of local food and drink, from local stands off the side of the road to the pricier restaurants which you read about in the magazines. Let’s get started! Friday Night Fish Fry, Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera I had been looking forward to the Friday Night Fish Fry since the time that I first began reading about Eleuthera. Locals and tourists gather together once a week in Governor’s Harbour to share food, drink, some music and a few stories. As we…

It’s time for a day trip! The fifth part of our Eleuthera trip report takes us on a day trip to another of the islands of the Bahamas, Harbour Island. Harbour Island, “Briland” to the locals, is located just a mile or two off the coast of Eleuthera. Although it is only 3-1/2 miles long and 1-1/2 miles wide, the island boasts a number of luxurious accommodations, along with many restaurants and shops, all in a classic Bahamian style. Harbour Island is a quick 10-minute water taxi ride from Eleuthera. To get to the dock, take the road from North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) to the east until you run out…
