One constant has remained for every trip to Anguilla – – Saturdays are for Smokey’s. I remember our first trip to the island in 2007. I heard there was live music at Smokey’s for lunch on Saturday, so I was determined to make it there on our first full day on the island. We walked there from the CuisinArt (you could do that back then – the beach was wider). I remember being seated at the table just inside the easternmost door, looking out over the water. I had the jerk chicken (which I’ve had every time since), and heard The Musical Brothers performing, doing Christmas songs. I had found my happy place. We have returned on every trip since.
The great thing is that now, after four visits to the island, with every Saturday at Smokey’s, it never gets old. The food and drink are just as delicious, the music just as entertaining, and the atmosphere is just as relaxing. Everything I remember came back once again.
The food. I had my jerk chicken. Our daughter ordered the curry goat, an excellent choice.
You have the option of the rum punch, or the “Special Rum Punch.” How can you turn down anything called “special?” Be warned – – it packs a punch!
Even the duck could not resist.
Who’s the duck? More accurately, “What The Duck?” The duck is the creation of a photographer from back home, Aaron Johnson. Aaron does a comic strip featuring the duck and his adventures as a professional photographer. You can purchase a plush duck, one of his colleague (in black), or the intern (green). Follow the duck on his adventures on his Facebook page, and see all the places he travels. The duck enjoyed his time at Smokey’s.
The music is as great as ever. Once again, we were treated to an afternoon with The Musical Brothers.
I took a walk down the beach.
And returned again to relax.
It’s the perfect place to spend your irie time.
