You know you want to honeymoon in the Caribbean, but which island? The islands are incredibly diverse. Some have better beaches. Some are ideal for foodies. Some islands are favorites for adventure. Welcome to Puntacana Village! Located on the grounds of the Puntacana Resort & Club, the marketplace includes restaurants and shops in an open-air environment shady by a canopy of beautiful trees. The distance to the Village from Tortuga Bay is too great for our golf cart battery, so we arranged for a lift. There are a variety of restaurants in the Village from which to choose. I loved these pizza delivery vehicles! In addition to a number of small galleries and shops, there is a pharmacy and a very well-stocked grocery store with everything you need. Every other Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Village hosts the Puntacana Village Farmers…

Today we head off to Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve (Reserve Ecological Ojos Indigenous), a 1,500 acre private reserve maintained by the Ecological Foundation of Punta Cana. The Foundation maintains the grounds for preservation, recreation, and research. Contained within the grounds of Punta Cana Resort & Club, the park is a quick golf cart ride from Tortuga Bay, midpoint between Tortuga Bay and La Yola, one of the fine restaurants on the grounds. The park is a series of trails which take you past freshwater lagoons and immerse you in the plants and animals that find their home there. Loads of turtles! And lots of cool fish! The paths are…

It’s time to hit the beach! When staying in an oceanfront suite at Tortuga Bay, the beach just across the lawn. Pick a lounger, and they’ll pop open the umbrella and set you up with towels and an ice bucket of bottled water. The water is refreshing, but it’s not long before our beach attendant chopped open some coconuts to offer us a little something different! Here’s a tip for drinking from a coconut – pull out your straw and pop a second hole in the coconut. The second hole relieves the pressure, making it easier to drink! Time for a walk. You can walk to the south, but you’ll…

We’ll check out the restaurants on the grounds, and share our favorite afternoon snacks. We’ll take a trip to the village to do a bit of shopping and browse the offerings at the Saturday morning farmers market. Then we’ll hike through the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park, taking a dip in the cool freshwater pools. First things first — let’s check out our suite, which is the entire first…

I have always wanted to go to Carnival in the Caribbean, but we never seemed to be in the islands at the right time. My friend and photographer, Brian Sprague, and his friend, Sarah, celebrated their birthdays in in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and were kind enough to share their experiences, including Carnival! For those new to the area, the Dominican Republic is one of two nations on the island of Hispanola, the other being Haiti. Punta Cana is part of the Punta Cana-Bavaro-Veron-Macao municipal district in La Altagracia, the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic. The capital city of La Altagracia is Higüey. Walk with Brian and Sarah around Higüey,…
